I saw an ad in "allaccess.com" that says that MTS in Cambridge MD is hiring a drivetime jock and a bunch of part time jocks for its 3 FM's. I figured that I'de ask you about them since you say that you worked at WCEM a few years ago. What are they like to work for and how is the pay? Is it worth a move from central Ohio where I currently work? Thanks, Jim

Jim,
I really liked my time at MTS. The people there are really nice and good at what they do, and the overall atmosphere from my standpoint was relaxed and friendly. Troy Hill is the main guy and probably one of the coolest and funniest guys that I have ever met. John Harris was my direct supervisor (the PD at "The Heat") and he's a super-nice guy and the very well respected longtime host of the morning show. I have nothing but nice things to say about everyone that I came in contact with there. The studios are located right on the Choptank River and have an amazing water view. The only down side is when the river swells, the place gets flooded pretty bad. Also, if you are allergic to mold you might have a problem there because it bothered me a bit. I left MTS to work at a big-market station with better pay and while I like my current job, I really miss working at "The Heat" and often kick myself for leaving.
I don't know exactly what they are paying the full-timers, but a good guess would be around the mid-20's to start. Yeah, not much, but it's in a part of the state that isn't crazy-expensive to live. Cambridge is a little over an hour from Annapolis, about 20 minutes to Easton, and maybe 40 minutes to Salisbury and Seaford DE. It gives you a lot of options for living and for things to do. If you can live on the pay (and maybe get a retail or bartending job on the side) you can do well. They also do a lot of remotes, and that would substantially bring up your pay as well. Go for it! It's a nice place to live & work.
