I read a story in the Capital about WRYR and have been trying to pull in the station but keep getting a country station. What is the deal with them? Is it a type-o or are they really on 97.5 fm? I am interrested in supporting the local station but find it odd that I can't pick it up here in Edgewater.

WRYR is a low power station. They are licensed to push 100 watts with a tower height of 100 feet, although their tower really is only around 80 feet - making matters worse. In comparison, most stations in this area are the equivalent of 50,000 watts at 500 feet, and the weakest ones are 6000 watts at 300 feet. The country station that you are hearing is a 6000 watt station from Salisbury that comes across the bay frequently interfering with WRYR. When I hosted a show at WRYR I know that the only area where the signal is strong is on Tilghman Island (where their tower is) and in St. Michaels. If you are within a mile or two of the bay in southern AA county they come on ok too. I couldn't receive the station in their own parking lot in Deale or at my house on Kent Island though. I actually have my Sirius Satellite Radio FM transmitter set to 97.5 in my car because there isn't anything there to interrupt it in the Annapolis/DC/Baltimore areas. That said, it is a cool little station and it does webcast, probably the best way to listen. Go to their site at www.wryr.org to listen online.
