The 7th Annual Island Bay Day (this year's theme was "Rocktoberfest") was Saturday Oct 12th. The weather took a big, long steamy crap on us, so we had to move the entire festival from the open field to the County Fair side of the park. We had the bands under one structure, the Beer Garden under another, the craft vendors inside a closed structure, and other vendors under an open structure. The Priddy Music Academy used a far pavilion by the swings. The volunteers did an amazing job setting everything up at the last minute, and everything went over very well. The turnout was good for a rainy day and everyone liked the layout. The vendors and food vendors sold well, and the Beer-Fest ended up being a huge hit! Last year, the festival lost a lot of money due to a poor turnout and bad beer sales. The weather was too cold and the change of location scared people away. Island Bay Day also spent a ton of money on the bands. This year, Island Bay Day went with local and regional acts, and kept costs down by utilizing the park facilities instead of bringing in a ton of costly stuff. The end result is that while it didn't make any money, (it did lose a bit due to paying for a stage that wasn't used and radio advertising), it was a huge success compared to 2012. It would have been ideal to be able to pay the debts off from 2012 with this year's money, but that didn't happen.
Now that the festival can be thrown at a reasonable cost, we know that Island Bay Day will be able to do an amazing festival built on 2013's foundation and new business model. Sponsor money is needed to get the festival squared though. If you are good at outside sales, please contact Island Bay Day at islandbayday@yahoo.com - You will get a generous commission, and you will be helping a worthy cause. Island Bay Day is 501(c)3 non-profit and Island Bay Day can offer sponsors the charity option, or advertising and outreach that is far better that anything that they could get on their own.
